Why is melting point one of the most critical parameters in candle production?

In candle making, the melting point of paraffin wax is like the "cooking temperature" in a recipe—if controlled well, the candle will burn stably, have a smooth surface, and diffuse its fragrance evenly; if not, the finished product may have dents, cracks, or uneven burning. Paraffin waxes with different melting points have different hardness, transparency, shrinkage rates, and burning characteristics, making them suitable for different types of candle products.

For example, paraffin wax used for glass cups (container waxes) is generally chosen for its lower melting point, such as 56–58℃ or 58–60℃, so that the wax can adhere well to the container when cooling, without gaps. Columnar wax, conical wax, or sculpting wax are better suited to paraffin wax with a higher melting point (60–64℃) to ensure the wax's stiffness and resistance to deformation.


Low-melting-point paraffin wax (56–58℃) 

Low-melting-point paraffin wax has good fluidity and does not easily detach from the container after cooling, making it ideal for producing glass cup wax, canned wax, scented wax, and other candle products packaged in containers. Low-melting-point Fully Refined Paraffin Wax burns with a gentle flame and a light, oily feel, making it suitable for adding fragrances and dyes. It produces excellent colored and scented candles. Many scented candle brands prefer this type of low-melting-point Fully Refined Paraffin Wax because it diffuses the fragrance evenly after ignition and doesn't dissipate quickly due to high temperatures.


Medium-melting-point paraffin wax (58–60℃)

Medium-melting-point Wax has good formability and hardness and is often used in decorative waxes, craft waxes, and church waxes. Candles made with Fully Refined Paraffin Wax burn with a stable flame and produce little soot, making them ideal for candles that require long burn times, such as church waxes used in Western countries or table waxes for candlelight dinners in Western restaurants.
