The semi-refined paraffin wax is a low-cost and broadly-applied intermediate refined petroleum wax product, and a mainstream raw material in the candles, packaging, light industry, electrical, and others.
Basic Properties
Look: light yellow or white block or granular solid.
Typical grades: 52#, 54#, 56#, 58#, and 60#, with a melting point between 52 and 62°C.
Oil Content: usually 0.5% -1.5%, between crude paraffin wax, and fully refined paraffin wax.
Density: Density is about 0.88 g/cm3, which increases with increase of melting point.
solubility Soluble in organic solvents, not solub le in water, e.g. benzene, chloroform, ether.
Chemical Stability: Is chemically inert, i.e. acid-resistant, alkali-resistant, and it is not readily degraded at room temperature.
Moderate plasticity and flexibility: Moderate oil level has a good formability and is easily processed into different shapes.
Outstanding moisture protection and insulation: Can be applied as a waterproof coating and as an all round electrical insulating material.
Constant combustion behaviour: The candle type is focused, smokefree, and drip-free.
Excellent cost-efficiency: Process of moderate refinement, less expensive than complete refined paraffin wax, can be used on a large scale.
The most important application is Candle Manufacturing.
The raw material of domestic candle production, which is used in the production of ordinary lighting candles, religious candles and decorative candles.
Various melting points are adapted to different seasons/environment: high melting points (58#/60#) are adapted to high temperature environment and low melting points (52#/ 54#) are adapted to the low temperature environment.
Packaging and Papermaking
Wax paper/ wax film: Cartons with moisture protection, anti-rust packaging paper, indirect food contact packaging.
Paper glossing / sizing: Increases gloss, water resistant and stiffness of paper.
Light Industry and Education.
Crayons, wax pastes: As a color carrier and a binder.
Wood processing: Moisture-proofing, anti-corrosion and glossing of wood.
Leather care Components of leather softeners and glossing agents.
Electrical and Industrial
General electrical equipment: Cable filling, joint sealing, capacitor impregnation (non-high frequency).
Rubber industry: Softener, anti-aging agent, increases the processability and weatherability of rubber.
Metal processing: Anti-rust, release, temporary protective agent.
Other Applications
Make-up: Lipstick base and thickener, eyebrow pencils, skin creams etc. (hygiene standards need to be met).
Horticulture: The use of grafting sealing wax on fruit trees, anti-corrosion wax on seedlings.
Explosives: To lower the sensitivity of explosives.
Composed burning, no black smoke.
The moderate level of the oil is cleaner than crude paraffin wax but more expensive than fully refined paraffin wax.
No dripping, good moulding, no soft, or sagging.
The appropriate hardness and toughness, ideal in the pouring, molding, and extrusion.
Adequate whiteness, physical attractiveness.
White or slightly yellow, is suitable both in white candles and colored candles.
Extensive melting point, which can be used in different climates.
Not tender in summer, not jealous in winter.
The most economical alternative.
The large scale production which was not refined by fully refined wax and had adequate quality was the preferred one.
